The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance, conservation and improvement work on the Besaya River, between the towns of Bárcena de Pie de Concha and Santa Olalla, in the municipality of Bárcena de Pie de Concha. These works are aimed at repairing a defense infrastructure.
The actions have an initial budget of 59 200 € and consist of the repair of a defense infrastructure composed of two walls of escollera and a nerve at the confluence of the Besaya river with a branch called Río Chico. This defense fence presents damage at several points, with displaced stone blocks and, in some areas, its foundation shows deterioration, which compromises both the stability and functionality of the infrastructure. The actions are carried out in order to recover the drainage section at the confluence of the Besaya River with the branch called Río Chico.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
Until June 1, 2024, in Cantabria, the investment made in conservation and maintenance works of waterways amounted to 410 079.42 euros, distributed in 31 actions in 23 municipalities.
