The Embarcadero Palace, emblematic building of the port and the city of Santander, has completed its rehabilitation after an investment of 1.3 million euros made by the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda and the 2% Cultural Program. The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has inaugurated the work highlighting that this action “revitalizes a cultural and historical symbol of the city, encourages the cultural offer of the city and beautifies the promenade, much loved by neighbors and visitors”.
The delegate highlighted the importance of this intervention within the framework of other major cultural projects that, such as the Associated Center of the Reina Sofía Museum in the former headquarters of the Bank of Spain, the future Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology (MUPAC) or the Gamazo Naves, all with support from the Government of Spain, reinforce the cultural attractiveness of Santander and Cantabria. “The objective is clear: to turn Santander into a national and international cultural reference point,” he said.
Thus, Gómez de Diego expressed his satisfaction with the result of the rehabilitation of the Embarcadero Palace, inviting the citizens to enjoy this renovated space that will house exhibitions and cultural events, stressing that the work not only revitalizes the building, but also strengthens the role of the Government of Spain as a driver of economic and social development in Cantabria.
In this same vein, he recalled other projects in the city, such as the approximately 12 million euros that the Government of Spain will invest to improve urban mobility through the expansion of sidewalks and the construction of bike lanes in the national N-611 and N-623. He has also compared the figures of state investment in the Port of Santander, which have gone from 38.5 million euros with the previous central government to 162 million under the presidency of Pedro Sánchez. Gómez de Diego has valued this increase as a “clear reflection of the state commitment” to the Port of Santander and the economy of Cantabria.
"I am looking forward to coming back to the Palacete to enjoy exhibitions, now with a rehabilitated, beautiful and more accessible Palacete," he concluded.
In addition to the delegate, the president of Cantabria, María José Saénz de Buruaga, the president of the Port Authority of Santander, César Díaz, and the mayor, Gema Igualada, participated in the inauguration ceremony.
