The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, highlighted on Thursday that the Government of Spain has transferred a total of 53 million euros to Cantabria so far this year for the development of active employment policies. The delegate announced this figure during the inauguration of the Youth Employment Fair, organized by the Torrelavega Chamber of Commerce with European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Gómez de Diego has pointed out that this event is held "in a positive labor context", with the lowest unemployment data of the last 17 years and with Spain growing economically above the European average. "Spain creates jobs, is growing more than the European average and continues to moderate its inflation," he said, stressing that "these results do not fall from the sky," but are the result of public policies promoted by the government.
During her speech, the delegate stressed that, thanks to these measures, Spain has managed to overcome the "double financial and health crisis" "without scars", in an international context marked by geopolitical crises that affect all countries. In this regard, he stressed the importance of continuing to support key sectors, such as the industrial sector, recalling his latest visit to the Solvay plant in Torrelavega, where the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu, announced an aid of 30 million euros for decarbonization projects.
The Youth Employment Fair, which has the participation of 25 companies, seeks to facilitate the meeting between young people and companies in a changing labor market. "We know that there are sectors in need of workers, and that is why they must bet on attracting talent," said Gómez de Diego. The delegate has emphasized that the demands of young people in terms of working conditions are clear: "They want to work to live, not to live to work," he said, calling on companies to offer opportunities that include professional development projects and good working conditions.
Finally, the delegate has expressed her desire for the event to serve as a space for learning and connection between companies and young people. "I hope there will be a lot of 'match', as if this Job Fair were the 'Tinder' of finding work," he concluded.
The inauguration of the Fair was attended by the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Torrelavega, Carlos Augusto Carrasco; the mayor of Torrelavega, Javier López Estrada; the first deputy mayor, José Luis Urraca, and the general directors of Centers and Infrastructures, Reyes Mantilla, and Commerce and Consumption, Rosendo Ruiz.
