The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has launched this Friday, August 30, from 3 p.m., the special operation ‘Return of the Summer’ that will take place throughout this weekend until midnight next Sunday, September 1, during which some 81,000 long-distance trips are planned along the main roads of Cantabria, of the 4.7 million expected throughout the country.
In these days, the usual journeys of
a summer weekend with citizens returning to their homes
Localities of residence after the holidays.
Important movements of vehicles are expected from this same Friday afternoon, which can cause entry detentions of the large cities, as well as on the main roads of exit of tourist and rest areas.
On Saturday morning, between 10 and 14 hours, the intense traffic will continue at the beginning of both the weekend and the holiday month of September towards tourist areas of coast and rest, movements that will join the usual summer weekend short distance to areas of second residence and beaches and, already Saturday and Sunday, those returning to the large urban centers of those who have finished their holidays and make a staggered return.
Sunday will be the last day of the return of both those who end their holidays and those who have enjoyed the weekend, so between 16 and 23 hours, high traffic intensities and traffic problems will be presented on the main roads of communication.
SPECIAL DEVICE
With all this flow of vehicles on the road, the DGT has established a series of traffic regulation, management and monitoring measures, with the aim of facilitating the mobility and fluidity of the different road users and ensuring the safety of all of them, restricting the circulation of vehicles of more than 7,500 kg. in the eastern part of the A-8, bordering the Basque Country, during certain times of the weekend.
In the specific case of Cantabria, the provincial head of Traffic, José Miguel Tolosa, has indicated that everything is ready for this last operation return of the summer and the roads with more displacements will be, as usual, the A-8, the A-67, the S-10 and the S-30, especially in the afternoon of Friday, the morning of Saturday and, above all, the afternoon of Sunday.
The most conflictive points of traffic will be the area near Torrelavega, in the junction between the A-67 and the A-8, and in the latter way in the area between Laredo and the border with the Basque Country. Likewise, there will be a significant movement of vehicles from coastal and tourist areas to the main population centers.
In Cantabria, in order to carry out these measures on interurban roads, the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard will deploy up to 180 agents, counting on the collaboration, on urban roads, of the local police of the different municipalities of the Autonomous Community. Likewise, the staff of the DGT Management Centers, road maintenance personnel and emergency services are collaborating.
In addition, in Cantabria there are 10 operating radars, one of them for a stretch (on the N-629, between the towns of Limpias and Ampuero), and it has three mobile control cameras and safety belt, two of them on the A-67 and one on the A-8. The start-up of the new section radar on the A-8, in Saltacaballo, will not yet be operational for this special operation; its start-up is planned for a few weeks.
In addition, Traffic always recommends, before and during the trip, to inform itself of the state of the roads through all the communication channels available to it, either through the twitter accounts @informacionDGT and @DGTes, the newsletters on radio and television, such as on the telephone 011 or on the Agency's website (www.dgt.es or https://infocar.dgt.es/etraffic/) in order to avoid unforeseen events and use the alternative itineraries proposed if necessary.
