The Civil Guard in Cantabria has today formed a protocol that establishes the basic principles of collaboration between the Marqués de Valdecilla Foundation, and the Fraternity Association of Blood Donors of Cantabria in matters of blood donation.
The Area of the Civil Guard of Cantabria may carry out actions for the dissemination and promotion of blood donation with the initiatives, procedures and means at its disposal, promoting the participation of its personnel and ceding the appropriate space in its facilities to facilitate that the mobile extraction unit of the Blood and Tissue Bank of Cantabria accesses the facilities of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, for the realization of blood collections to the staff of the Civil Guard, the people resident therein and those others who voluntarily wish to participate in the solidarity activity, which involves blood donation.
The signing, which took place in the Government Delegation, was attended by the Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, the Minister of Health, César Pascual, the colonel of the Civil Guard of Cantabria, Antonio Orantos, the Manager of the Marqués de Valdecilla Foundation, José Francisco Díaz and the president of the Fraternity-Association Blood Donors of Cantabria, Gervasio García.
The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, wanted to highlight that “the very definition of the benevolent spirit is that of benefactor, that of doing good to others. The Civil Guard has been participating in blood donation activities and with this collaboration they continue to show their commitment to society and honor their code of conduct that emphasizes providing help with the means at their disposal to anyone who needs it.”
Donating blood saves lives
“El acto altruista de donar sangre salva vidas”, ha subrayado Gómez de Diego.
“The Civil Guard lives up to the solidarity of the Cantabrians and the Cantabrians. It is a pride that Cantabria is one of the Autonomous Communities that, year after year, is at the forefront of both blood donation and organ donation. This is something we should be very proud of.
“The government delegate also wanted to thank the Blood Donor Fraternity-Association for its great work, “it is a beloved and respected institution, its more than 50 years of work promoting this solidarity has helped save an incalculable number of lives. At any time we can all need a transfusion or a transplant, in the end we do it for others and also for ourselves.”
