The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, visited today the works of rehabilitation and improvement of energy efficiency of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Cantabria (UC), within the framework of the Program of Impulse to the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings (PIREP).
Gómez de Diego highlighted the importance of this program, funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda with European funds Next Generation, to improve the energy efficiency of public buildings and promote sustainability. In the specific case of Cantabria, the Government of Spain has invested a total of 5.9 million euros in the PIREP, of which 3 million are destined for the rehabilitation of the Faculty of Sciences and the rest to four health centers.
"This investment not only saves energy and CO2 emissions, but also contributes to modernizing and making our public buildings more sustainable," said the delegate.
Thus, Gómez de Diego expressed his satisfaction with the execution of the rehabilitation of the Faculty of Sciences, which will bring with it the renewal of the insulation of both the facade and the roof, something that, as he stressed, "teachers and students will notice thanks to an improvement in the comfort of the classrooms and also the University with savings in the energy consumption bill.
The actions framed in the PIREP focus on the improvement of the thermal envelope of the buildings, through the installation of new insulation and the replacement of carpentry shops. In addition, measures are being carried out to optimize thermal and lighting installations, which will significantly reduce the energy consumption of these properties.
45 million and a thousand homes
In addition to the PIREP, Gómez de Diego highlighted the important commitment of the State to rehabilitation in Cantabria, with more than 45 million euros committed in other programs, which has allowed to rehabilitate or is allowing to rehabilitate a thousand homes in the region.
"Rehabilitation is a policy of the first order, a commitment to have energetically efficient buildings, which improve habitability, accessibility and sustainability and which also contributes to the activation of the construction sector and economic activity," concluded the delegate, underlining the commitment of the Government of Spain to the improvement of the built park and the fight against climate change.
The Minister of Public Works, Roberto Media, and the Rector of the University of Cantabria, Ángel Pazos, participated in the visit to the works that are being executed at the Faculty of Sciences.
