In the early morning of today they have finished a part of the works that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is carrying out in the Nudo de Torrelavega. Specifically, the new Oviedo-Palencia branch has been opened to traffic within the Sierrapando link, a stretch of 2 kilometers long that represents an important step forward in the connection of the A-67 with the A-8.
This was announced by the Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, who stressed that this opening is a sign of the strong momentum that has been given to the works in recent months, as highlighted by Minister Óscar Puente himself during his recent visit to Cantabria. The Ministry has so far invested 99 million euros in this project, which represents 79% of the total budget.
The works in this section have included the construction of 3,450 m2 of reinforced soil walls and wall walls, two new structures, the expansion of two existing lower passages, the channeling of the Tronquería stream and the remodeling of the drainage system of the link, among other actions.
As Gómez de Diego explained, until the definitive opening of the continuity branch takes place, this new section will also serve for Santander-Palencia traffic. In this way, the current branch is released, allowing the contractor company to continue with the planned works inside the link.
The opening of this new branch will contribute to improving the fluidity of traffic in the Nudo de Torrelavega, one of the points of greatest confluence of vehicles in Cantabria. In addition, it will save time for users, as well as greater road safety.
The Ministry headed by Óscar Puente continues to work intensively to finalize the works of the Nudo de Torrelavega in the scheduled time, which is the summer of 2025. Once the work is completed, this infrastructure will become a fundamental element for the road network of Cantabria, improving connectivity and mobility in the region.
