The Government Delegation in Cantabria this morning called for a minute’s silence in front of its headquarters in memory of the women murdered by male violence this weekend and to express its revulsion at these tragic events and pay tribute to the victims.
In just 48 hours, six women have allegedly been killed by their partners. The delegate of the Government, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, wanted to express her heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims. "They are not alone in this fight. From the Government we will continue working tirelessly so that there is not a single woman who has to suffer this violence," he said.
Thus, Gómez de Diego has expressed his deep rejection of male violence and has appealed to unity to end this terrible problem: "We cannot remain impassive in the face of these acts of barbarism that every year uproot the lives of so many women. It is the duty of the whole society to fight this scourge and support the victims," he said.
As he stressed, "the protection of women and the prevention of gender violence is an absolute priority for the Government of Spain". "We will continue to strengthen resources and support measures for victims, as well as promote equal education from childhood to build a society free of violence," he said.
The event held in front of the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Cantabria joins other similar events held in different parts of the country, showing the determination of Spanish society in the face of this scourge.
