The government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, highlighted the importance of the International LGTBI+ Pride Day, which is commemorated today, as "a day of reclaiming whose objective is to promote the real and effective equality of LGTBI+ people".
Gómez de Diego stressed that "LGBTI Pride is the pride of all of Spain" and affirmed the commitment to "defend a proudly free Spain, in which no person feels afraid again or suffers harassment or discrimination due to their sexual orientation or identity, their gender expression or their sexual characteristics".
The delegate emphasized the need for a “society that respects, protects and accompanies LGBTI+ people, helping them grow with pride in who they are and in loving those they love.”
In his statement, he acknowledged that “today we are a better and more dignified country thanks to the drive and action of LGBTI+ activism, which did not resign itself to invisibility, discrimination or violence.” He also said that "an activism that accompanies the work of the government and fills it with pride".
The Government of Spain, according to Gómez de Diego, "is committed to the development of public policies that put an end to situations of discrimination." Among these policies has been highlighted the LGTBI 028 Service, a comprehensive information and attention service on LGTBI rights and hate crimes for LGTBIphobia, "free and accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."
To conclude, the delegate has encouraged those who have doubts, have suffered discrimination or are in a situation of violence due to their identity or who they love, to "call 028". He concluded his message with a forceful "PROUDLY FREE. HAPPY PRIDE."
The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Cantabria has added another year to the week of celebrations on the occasion of the International Day of LGTBI Pride by placing flags on all the balconies of its headquarters in Calvo Sotelo Street in Santander.
