The delegate of the Government, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has today attended the ‘IV Exhibition of Police Media’ organized by the National Police in the Palacio de Deportes de Santander, where different specialized units have shown their work to more than 3,000 schoolchildren from 25 educational centers in the region.
Gómez de Diego has chaired the event together with the Superior Chief of Police of Cantabria, Carmen Martínez, accompanied by the Counselor of Presidency, Justice, Citizen Security and Administrative Simplification, Isabel Urrutia.
This activity is framed within the ‘Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their environments’, coordinated by the High Inspection of Education under the Government Delegation of Cantabria.
During the day, schoolchildren were able to enjoy exhibitions from the Cavalry Unit, the Canine Guides Unit, the Technical Specialists in Deactivation of Explosive Devices (TEDAX-NRBQ), the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) and the Special Security Operations Group (GOES).
The different units have carried out simulations of their daily activities, such as the search for drugs and explosives by police dogs, the neutralization of an explosive device, the arrest of a suspect and the assault on a house.
Gómez de Diego pointed out that the National Police "is a modern institution, close to citizenship and committed to the safety of all". He added that this type of exhibition "helps children to get to know the work done by the different specialized groups and feel safe knowing that they can count on them in case of need."
With this initiative, the National Police, which this year celebrates the 200th anniversary of its constitution, wants to make the police function known to the whole society, emphasizing the smallest and most vulnerable groups, so that they can find in their members the figure of support to whom to request help if they need it.
The exhibition has also been attended by members of the Ampros Special Education Center, Down Cantabria Syndrome Foundation, AFÍM Foundation and various Elderly Centers of Santander.
