The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, expressed this afternoon her sincere congratulations and joy for the successful rescue of two speleologists who were unaccounted for after entering a cave in the town of Soba.
Gómez de Diego has expressed the joy shared by all and has extended his gratitude to the troops of the Rescue and Intervention Group in Mountains (GREIM) of the Civil Guard and the Military Emergency Unit (UME) for the excellent work carried out, as well as to each and every one of the people who participated in the search device.
"This happy ending was what we all wanted," said the government delegate, highlighting the joint effort and coordination of all those involved in the rescue.
“This successful rescue is a testament to the commitment and courage of our emergency teams, whose tireless work has brought peace to the families of speleologists and the entire community,” added Gómez de Diego.
The two spellologists, a man and a woman from Castilla y León, were found in good health inside the cave around 1.30 p.m. by GREIM troops, who managed to communicate the situation to the command post at 5.50 p.m. Finally, they were guided to the outside of the cavity, exiting to the surface in the area known as Sima del Sombrero around 7.30 p.m.
In the operation - dependent on the Government of Spain - 56 GREIM troops have participated - some thirty of them from other autonomous communities - and 24 from the UME, who have had different technical means, including a Civil Guard helicopter. All of them have participated in the device after receiving late on Sunday night the request for support from the regional government, which coordinated the intervention.
The government delegate has been present in Soba, closely monitoring the device and expressing her personal thanks to the troops for their dedication and professionalism.
