The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, today highlighted the fundamental role of the Civil Guard in public security, especially in small municipalities, during the commemorative act of the 180th anniversary of the foundation of the body organized by the City of Los Corrales de Buelna.
During his speech, Gómez de Diego pointed out that the Civil Guard, with its strong municipal vocation and its presence throughout the territory, is an "indispensable collaborator" to consolidate "safer, social and healthy" municipalities.
The delegate stressed that the Civil Guard is not only responsible for ensuring compliance with laws and citizen security, but also carries out missions of care and assistance to citizens, rescue and help in mountains and at sea, traffic surveillance, nature protection and the fight against gender violence.
In this regard, he highlighted the work carried out by the Civil Guard also in the fight against rural depopulation, "contributing to the search for solutions to this challenge and engaging in the care of people who may be or feel isolated". “You are a security body close to the citizen, increasingly versatile, that adapts to the times and new circumstances that surround us,” he said.
Gómez de Diego has assured that the Government of Spain "is committed to the Civil Guard" and will continue working to "promote better staff, which are today already the most numerous for years and with the greatest number of female talent in its history".
The delegate concluded her speech by thanking the Civil Guard for their "professionalism, dedication and commitment to public service", which has earned them the "affection and respect" of the neighbors of Cantabria.
The event was attended by the Mayor, Julio Arranz; the Colonel Chief of the Civil Guard, Antonio Orantos, as well as the Councilor for Presidency, Justice, Security and Administrative Simplification, Isabel Urrutia, and other members of the Municipal Corporation.
