The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has today presented a cycle of training sessions that aim to offer families “the necessary tools to face the challenges posed by today’s society in terms of cyberbullying, cybersecurity and social networks”.
This initiative, organized in collaboration with the associations FAPA and Concapa, is part of the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers coordinated by the High Educational Inspection of the Government Delegation.
Accompanied by José Manuel Torre (president of FAPA), Mónica Haro (president of Concapa), Colonel Chief of the Civil Guard Antonio Orantos and Superior Chief of the National Police Carmen Martínez, Gómez de Diego highlighted the importance of collaboration between all the actors involved to ensure the safety and well-being of minors.
With this objective, these training days have been organized that will take place in six municipalities of Cantabria during the month of May. The sessions, which will begin at 18:00 hours, will be held in Laredo, Torrelavega, Reinosa, Cabezón de la Sal, Camargo and Santander.
Thus, police experts from the Civil Guard and the National Police will be responsible for addressing the risks of the digital environment and providing keys to prevent them and protect and train minors. Topics such as the management of privacy on the Internet, the importance of communication between parents and children and the responsible use of smartphones and tablets will be discussed.
Gómez de Diego has pointed out that specialists are warning that the inappropriate use of electronic devices affects children at an early age every day, warning about the increase in cases of children under 10 years of age.
The delegate has encouraged families to participate in these conferences, describing them as “a unique opportunity to improve educational skills in the digital world”. In addition, he has thanked the FAPA and Concapa associations for their initiative and their commitment to the education and welfare of boys and girls.
Nearly 30,000 students
Likewise, Gómez de Diego has also praised the work of the State Security Forces and Corps within the framework of the Master Plan. According to him, in the last school year, 1,793 face-to-face sessions were held with an attendance of 29,770 students, which represents about 90% of the students of Cantabria.
In this way, Gómez de Diego expressed his gratitude to the State Security Forces and Corps “for their effort and dedication in meeting the growing demand of educational centers.”
How to address the problem
For their part, José Manuel de la Torre and Mónica Haro explained that the Master Plan already has a strong implementation in schools in the region and that this initiative aims to bring this training closer to families. In addition, they have pointed out that the prohibition of family devices in the school environment, as well as excessive use, is an issue that “gives a lot to talk about and generates many problems.”
“We are well aware that the use of mobile phones is causing great difficulties for families, often due to lack of knowledge about how to deal with it,” they said. For this reason, they have defended the appropriateness of the theme and considered that these days are “extremely necessary”.
