The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has presented today, in the office of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) of Isaac Peral Street in Santander, the initiative by which the eight SEPE offices in Cantabria will act as Violeta Points against gender violence.
According to the delegate of the Government, with this measure “we seek to give visibility, sensitize, and contribute to women feeling that they have safe spaces to go to in case of suffering from a situation of male violence.” The installation of these Violeta Points in public institutions is "one more way to point out that this is not only a women's problem, but has a structural origin that requires the involvement of the whole of society," said Gómez de Diego.
"This action is part of the objective of building a more just and egalitarian society and responds to the firm and unequivocal commitment of the Government of Pedro Sánchez to eradicate mahicsta violence in any of its forms," added the delegate.
Gómez de Diego has pointed out that there are currently 1,202 women in Cantabria who are within the System of Protection and Monitoring against Gender Violence (VioGén). 767 of them have police protection measures established by the Justice and 291 with the device of the Telephone Service of Attention and Protection for Victims of Gender Violence (ATENPRO), which offers victims immediate attention to any eventualities that may occur 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In this way, the implementation of the Violeta Points in the offices of the SEPE is added to those already existing in other public institutions, thus expanding the offer of safe spaces to which women victims of male aggression can go.
Change of focus
Gómez de Diego explained that these measures represent a "change of focus" in public policies of care for victims and have three transversal objectives: to involve the whole of society in the fight against male violence, to bring comprehensive services closer to victims through their environment and to provide information on how to act in a case of male violence.
According to what was agreed in the renewal of the State Pact 2024, violence against women is going to be addressed "with a broad gaze", opening up to other types of violence that are exercised on women, whether or not they have to do with their partner or former partner, such as sexual violence, cyberviolence, obstetric violence or others.
Prior to the implementation of these new Violet Points, the Gender Violence Unit of the Government Delegation has trained SEPE public employees and employees on how to make an early detection, the existing resources available to women at both the state and regional levels and the protocol of action.
In the implementation and dissemination of this initiative, which includes all SEPE offices in Spain, the delegate has been accompanied by the head of the Gender Violence Unit, Diana Morán, and the territorial director of SEPE, Celia Carro.
