The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, on Tuesday welcomed the authorization by the Council of Ministers to tender the project of construction of the Alar del Rey-Reinosa stretch for an amount of almost 20 million euros.
In a statement, Gómez de Diego stressed that this step "marks a very important milestone" on Cantabria's road to high speed and is "a crucial step" that brings the region closer to the reality of a AVE that "will transform mobility" and "improve the quality of life" of the Cantabrians.
The delegate recalled the "firm commitment" of the Government of Spain to the development of infrastructure in Cantabria, and assured that the tender for the project "is a clear sign" of this. “Faced with those who do not cease to shout, there are the facts and this is one more of them,” said Gómez de Diego.
Thus, after recalling that it was also the Executive of Pedro Sánchez who paid off the historical debt of Valdecilla, he recalled that he promoted other “great projects with millionaire investments”, such as the improvement of the Desfiladero de La Hermida, the grounding of the train tracks in Torrelavega or the third lane of the A-67 between Santander and Torrelavega, whose works will begin soon.
Gómez de Diego has listed the benefits that the arrival of the AVE to Cantabria will bring, such as the reduction of travel times, the improvement of connectivity, the economic boost and the generation of employment, the improvement of the quality of life of the Cantabrians and the opening of new opportunities for tourism, business and regional development.
The delegate thanked the Government of Spain and, in particular, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility headed by Óscar Puente, for its commitment to Cantabria and its commitment to this project.
