In the framework of the World Meteorological Day, the delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has highlighted the importance of the fight against climate change, highlighting the “growing social awareness” of this problem and encouraging everyone to continue working for a more sustainable future.
Gómez de Diego made these statements during his participation in the event organized by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in Cantabria under the motto ‘In the first line of climate action’.
The delegate wanted to recognize the work of the professionals of the meteorology, “a fundamental service for the society that we constantly use in our daily life”. In this line, he has highlighted the challenge of “spreading the impacts of climate change without falling into the fatal pessimism that immobilises thinking that there is nothing left to do”.
“It is essential to transmit information clearly and accurately, without generating alarmism, but at the same time raising awareness of the need to act,” said Gómez de Diego.
The delegate has been in favor of “adopting urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects”, aligning itself with the Sustainable Development Goals that inspire the policies of the Government of Spain.
Gómez de Diego concluded his speech by celebrating the “growing awareness” of Spanish society in the face of climate change, especially among younger people. “This awareness is a source of hope and encourages us to continue working for a more sustainable future,” he concluded.
