The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has provisionally approved the project for the humanization and execution of a bicycle lane on the roads of the State N-611 and N-623, at its entrance to Santander, in Cantabria, as announced by the minister, Óscar Puente, on his visit to the city last Monday, which also announced that on April 3 the project will be presented to the neighbors, in collaboration with the Delegation of the Government and the City of Santander.
The announcement of the project, which includes works with an estimated budget of 11.83 million euros (VAT included), has been published today in the Official State Gazette (BOE), for submission to the public information process.
The objective of the action is to transform the urban environment of the N-611 roads, from the roundabout of the Valdecilla exchanger to the limit of the municipal term with Santa Cruz de Bezana; and the N-623, from the roundabout of Cuatro Caminos to the limit with the municipal term of Camargo, in a friendly environment that promotes the active mobility of pedestrians and cyclists, improving the accessibility and functionality of these stretches of road.
In this way, the project will undertake the expansion of the sidewalks and/or implementation of new ones, installation of new urban furniture and tree species, adaptation and improvement of the lighting efficiency of the road, and the construction of 5.3 km of new bike lanes along both roads (2.6 km on the N-623 and 2.7 km on the N-611), to connect the new infrastructure to the network of existing and planned bike lanes within the municipality of Santander.
Likewise, the safety conditions of the users of both roads and adjacent urban roads will be improved for each of the maneuvers and movements of entry and exit through the execution of various roundabouts. There will also be a new lighting for all the glorietas designed and the adaptation of the semaphorization system to the new technologies according to the specifications of the City of Santander.
This action implies that, once the works are completed, the section will be ceded to the Santander City Council in accordance with the regulations that establish the framework for the conclusion of agreements for delivery to the City Councils of urban roads of the state network.
