The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, today presided over an act of awarding decorations to two members of the Civil Guard and the National Police, in recognition of their "professionalism, public service and dedication, and for their contribution to the service and welfare of society."
In his speech, Gómez de Diego highlighted the work of the decorated, the National Police Inspector Jesús Gómez Termis and the Lieutenant Colonel of the Civil Guard Arturo Marcos Sánchez, as "an example of the professionalism, service and dedication" of the State Security Forces and Corps.
Inspector Gómez Termis has been recognized with the Official Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica for his long career in the National Police, which began in 1981. Among her merits, the delegate has highlighted her participation in the ETA attack in Albericia in 1992, where she was one of the first to reach and help the victims. Currently, Gómez Termis is in charge of the Delegation of Citizen Participation and Hate Crimes of the Higher Police Headquarters of Cantabria, where he develops prevention plans such as the Master Plan with educational centers or the Safe Trade Plan.
Lieutenant Colonel Marcos Sánchez has received the Civil Merit Award for his professional experience in investigation, especially in cases of organized crime. The delegate has praised his "constancy and self-denial", which have led to the dismantling of numerous criminal groups.
Recognition of State Security Forces and Corps
Gómez de Diego took the opportunity to thank the State Security Forces and Corps for their work, "an essential public service that gives us security, help and support to society." He described the award winners as "an inspiration" and highlighted their "spirit of improvement and dedication, collaboration and a vocation for public service".
The delegate ended her speech by addressing the two agents, to whom she expressed her "congratulations and deep personal thanks and on behalf of the Government of Spain".
