The Higher Police Headquarters of Cantabria, within the activities of the ‘Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers’ regulated by the Secretary of State for Security and coordinated by the Government Delegation, has organized four didactic concerts by the National Police Symphony Band aimed at the youngest students of educational centers in Santander and Torrelavega, aged between 6 and 9 years, approximately.
The concerts will be held between 20 and 23 February. The first two concerts (20 and 21 February) will take place at the CASYC Theatre in Santander, and the last two (22 and 23 February) in the auditorium of the IES Marqués de Santillana in Torrelavega. They will be attended by a total of approximately 1,500 students.
These four educational concerts are part of the various events and celebrations in commemoration of the Bicentenary of the National Police.
Today at 11:00 hours took place the first concert in the auditorium of the CASYC Theater, whose inauguration was attended by the Delegate of Government in Cantabria, Mrs. Eugenia Gómez; the Minister of Education, Professional Training and Universities of the Government of Cantabria, D. Sergio Silva; the Councillor for Culture, Education and Youth, Mrs. Noemí Méndez; the President of the Caja Cantabria Foundation, D. Gaspar Roberto Laredo; el Director General de la Fundación Caja Cantabria, D. Juan Antonio Muñiz; Dª Julia Sánchez, CEO de la Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía; el Director Territorial de Cantabria y Asturias del Banco Santander, D. Manuel Iturbe, and the Superior Chief of Police, Mrs. Carmen Martínez.
Concert goals
With these educational concerts, the aim is to interact and promote the values of music between boys and girls (they will receive clarifications on each of the works interpreted by the agents), while increasing the closeness between the police and the children's audience to which it is destined.
In addition to the children learning to differentiate various melodies and instruments, it is sought that they understand the values on which the Police is based (companionship, respect, understanding) and their task of helping, so that it is an experience that lasts in their memory.
Concert content
These didactic concerts offer musical interpretations and exhibition of instruments, making participations to schoolchildren, as well as an appreciation of the functions and qualities of the National Police.
Through the musical show, the story is told of a policeman, called Pedro, who has the task of providing security during the concert, solving the problems that occur during the event in a pleasant and fun way, interacting continuously with the children and making them feel and be part of the story.
The event takes place with great dynamism, linking turns in which explanations, instrumental music, singing, theater, image and video alternate, which guarantees the attention of children at all times.
National Police Symphony Band
The Symphony Band of the National Police, directed by D. Vicente Fernández García, is mainly dedicated to acting in police acts, interpreting the respective National Anthems, performing symphonic concerts promoted by public institutions, as well as giving symphonic didactic concerts to students of the School of Training of Ávila and students of educational centers, children's hospitals, senior schools and universities that request it.
The Higher Police Headquarters of Cantabria appreciates the collaboration and support given to Mrs. Julia Sánchez, CEO of the Reina Sofía School of Music; Center for Social and Cultural Action (CASYC) of the Caja Cantabria Foundation, Torrelavega City Council and IES Marqués de Santillana.
