The Council of Ministers has authorised a nominative grant to the Government of Cantabria to finance investment projects amounting to 55 million euros.
This amount was included in the Law on General State Budgets for the year 2023, which contained an amount of 55 million euros destined to this Autonomous Community to finance investment projects and complementary expenses.
By the General Administration of the State and by the Administration of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, the adoption of active policies of promotion and execution of investments to favor economic development in the Community has been considered a priority.
Thus, this Government has been contributing financially, through the signing of agreements with the Cantabrian Administration, to the financing of major projects and strategic actions in Cantabria, including the completion of the financing of the works of the Hospital ‘Marqués de Valdecilla’, the development of the Industrial Estate of La Pasiega or to modernize the Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology of Cantabria (MUPAC).
The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, said that “this financial support from the Government of Spain will, on the one hand, put an end to the historical debt of the State with Valdecilla and, on the other, allow to carry out crucial investments for Cantabria, such as the Logistics Center of La Pasiega and the new headquarters of the MUPAC”.
“These extraordinary funds will not only allow significant advances in the regional infrastructure, but will also contribute to the strengthening and improvement of the conditions for the economic and cultural development of Cantabria,” said Gómez de Diego.
In this regard, he has stressed that the allocation of these resources for strategic investments in Cantabria represents a “positive milestone” and has valued the decision of the central government to order and authorize these funds to the Community, which “undoubtedly demonstrates a clear commitment to the progress and well-being of the region.”
The delegate also valued the “open and constructive dialogue” of the administrations involved, highlighting the “remarkable impulse” that these demands have experienced thanks to the determined support of the Ministry of Finance and Public Function and the Government of Spain.
The General Administration of the State has considered of interest the provision of financial resources to finance investment projects in the aforementioned areas, thus contributing to the common purpose of economic development and development in this Community.
Therefore, the authorization of this nominative subsidy has been requested from the Council of Ministers, to exceed the amount of 12 million euros, in accordance with the regulations governing subsidies.
