The government delegate in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, highlighted the “clear commitment to equality” of the Swedish multinational IKEA during the opening of its new planning space in Santander, located in the commercial area of El Alisal.
Quiñones has participated in the opening ceremony of the new IKEA store together with the Minister of Industry, Employment, Innovation and Trade, Eduardo Arasti, and the first deputy mayor of the City of Santander, César Díaz, as well as with the general director of the multinational in Spain, Nurettin Acar, and the director of Mercado Norte, David Cajal, among others.
The Government delegate has indicated that IKEA’s commitment to equality between women and men is embodied in the II Equality Plan and that “it has the Distinctive Equality in Business of the Government of Spain, a recognition of its excellence, and a good guide, a good reference for the rest of companies in our Autonomous Community”.
At this point, Quiñones has detailed that IKEA has 59% of working women, a proportion that remains on the steering committee. “Therefore, it is an example of integration of the gender perspective in the management of the company and the co-responsibility between women and men,” he said.
On the other hand, and already focusing on the new IKEA space in Santander, the representative of the Government of Spain in Cantabria has praised that it has meant “an investment volume of more than 3 million euros” and the creation of stable employment, with 23 new jobs.
“Thank you very much for betting, for trusting and for investing in Santander and Cantabria and thank you also for being referents in the field of equal opportunities, showing that if you want, you can also invest in equality”, he concluded.
