More than 1,200 agents will ensure the normal development of the electoral day in Cantabria. Personnel of the National Police, the Civil Guard and the Local Police of the Autonomous Community will form this device to guarantee citizen security and the exercise of rights and freedoms during next Sunday, July 23.
The Government delegate in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, chaired on Monday the Extraordinary Security Board for the coordination of this security device that will be established on the occasion of the General Elections.
Quiñones highlighted “the work that has been carried out for the organization of this security device in the electoral process, so that the right to vote of citizens is guaranteed and that the electoral day runs normally”.
“The police will ensure the free and peaceful exercise of rights and freedoms and citizen security, as well as the custody of the critical infrastructures of the Autonomous Community that are fundamental for the development of the electoral process next Sunday, July 23,” he said.
The device will begin at 00.00 hours on the 23rd and will last until 9.00 hours on the 24th, said the Government delegate in Cantabria, who thanked the “important work” carried out by the agents of the National Police, the Civil Guard and the Local Police “every day of the year and especially on such important days as the holding of elections”.
The government delegate has indicated that this device has the same police force as in the previous General Elections held in April 2019.
The National Police will deploy 250 officers, while in the Civil Guard there will be 758 officers and another 200 officers from the Local Police of Cantabria, in total 1,208.
The Extraordinary Security Board held on Monday included the Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Francisco García Villa; the Superior Chief of Police, Carmen Martínez; the Colonel Chief of the Civil Guard, Antonio Orantos; and representatives of the local police of Santander and Torrelavega, as well as the Professional Association of Local Police of Cantabria, among others.
