The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, has highlighted the commitment of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) to improve the crossing of the N-634 road in Colindres with the construction of a roundabout that will not only entail a reordering of traffic, but will improve the access and safety of pedestrians.
Quiñones visited this Saturday with the mayor of Colindres, Javier Incera, the works that the Mitma is executing to build this roundabout in the amount of 404,055 euros and that are being developed through the State Roads Demarcation in Cantabria.
The delegate of the Government has reiterated the importance of these actions that “are not millionaires, but they are the ones that improve the day to day of the neighbors, in this case of Colindres, who are going to win in road and pedestrian security”.
The roundabout under construction is located between kilometer points 173 and 174 of the N-634 as it passes through Colindres and, when put into service, it will mean the rearrangement of the track, which currently has three lanes, one per direction and the other central for alternative turns to the left.
Quiñones has indicated that this action is not the only one that the Ministry carries out in Colindres where “soon, before the summer”, the humanization works of the N-629 and N-634 will be awarded as they pass through this municipality and they were put out to tender at the end of December in the amount of 446,270 euros (VAT included).
This next project in Colindres includes improvements in accessibility conditions in pedestrian crossings and elimination of architectural barriers in pedestrian itineraries, replacement of pavement in damaged sidewalks, replacement of current luminaires with LED technology luminaires and installation of new units, change of traffic lights on the crossing and installation of LED head-lights assembly in smart pedestrian crossings.
This action, which will be financed from the NextGenerationEU funds, shows the change in road policy in favour of sustainable and active mobility, so that it will improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists on the crossing, as well as its accessibility.
The objective is to generate, in relation to the State Road Network, a more accessible, inclusive and sustainable urban environment that helps decarbonize urban mobility and improve air quality.
In addition, Quiñones has indicated that the Mitma, through the State Road Demarcation, has also just asphalted another section of the N-629 in the municipality of Colindres, specifically the one that borders the one included in the project of humanization works.
Thus, the delegate has pointed out that these are actions “very important for Colindres and its neighbors” and that they will mean a “substantial improvement of road and pedestrian safety” in the urban center of the municipality.
The mayor of Colindres thanked the Ministry and the Government Delegation for “investing in the municipality”, with the recent asphalt of the N-629, now the execution of the roundabout on the N-634 and the upcoming humanization of both national roads.
