The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Ainoa Quiñones, has pointed out that “the climate reality is stubborn and it is urgent to give it future answers” and, of course, “not to ignore it, as some want, because that can take us back decades of development and work”.
He pointed this out this Tuesday at the closing of the presentation day of the Thematic Interdisciplinary Platform for Climate (PTI+ Climate and Climate Services) of the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC), which was held in the Government Delegation in Cantabria.
The president of the CSIC, Eloisa del Pino, participated in the day and took part in the closure together with the Government delegate. The Vice-President of Scientific and Technical Research of the CSIC, José María Martell, the territorial delegate of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) in Cantabria, José Luis Arteche, the coordinator of the PTI+ Clima and director of the Institute of Physics of Cantabria (IFCA), José Manuel Gutiérrez, also participated.
Quiñones thanked the CSIC for the presentation in Cantabria of this initiative that seeks to “unite efforts and achieve synergies that solve specific problems, and in this case, before something that concerns us all such as the climate emergency, the effects of climate change”.
For the delegate of the Government, “climate change is a critical issue for the current and future well-being of citizens and for the balance of ecosystems” and, therefore, it is “important to work to reduce such impacts and to build a future that will be green or not, that must be sustainable, inclusive and fair”.
In this sense, he has indicated that “climate impacts are occurring earlier and with greater intensity than expected” and, to advance his knowledge, he has praised this ‘ITP+ Climate and Climate Services’ that has as its mission “to advance climate research and provide reference climate services to different sectors related to water, biodiversity, agriculture or energy, enhanced participation and collaboration with companies”.
Thus, Quiñones stressed that it is “an important instrument to respond to the effects of climate change, which will bring together scientific teams specializing in atmosphere and climate and which has the objective of addressing in a coordinated way one of the great global challenges” that is climate change.
