The Delegation of the Government in the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have coordinated a traffic and security device for the celebration, next Friday, June 6, of the events on the occasion of the Day of the Armed Forces, which will be presided over by King Felipe VI.
At 3:00 p.m., the aeronaval magazine will take place in the bay of the city, between San Telmo and the Cathedral, with the presence of a total of 23 aircraft and 14 ships, among them the submarine S-81 ‘Isaac Peral’ that for the first time visits the capital.
The beach of Las Alcaravaneras will host, from 16:00 hours, an exhibition with aerial, amphibious and terrestrial demonstrations carried out by the Spanish Army, the Spanish Navy, the Spanish Air and Space Army, and the Civil Guard.
On the occasion of these events, the Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure, Architecture and Housing of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, with the support of the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Mobility Agents, will proceed to reorder traffic from 13:15 hours at the roundabout of Torre Las Palmas. Thus, the vehicles that access from the Julio Luengo tunnel will have to continue towards León and Castillo Street in the southern direction to join the Avenida Marítima.
Those users who use the entrance to Torre de Las Palmas from Avenida Marítima in the north direction and from León and Castillo Street in the south direction can only continue towards the Julio Luengo tunnel towards Agaete or through the Leopoldo Matos and Manuel González Martín streets of the Alcaravaneras neighborhood.
The event will also generate the cut of the additions to the road of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria and the Naval Base from the roundabout of Torre Las Palmas and from the intertwining of the Avenida Marítima, located in front of the beach of Las Alcaravaneras. The accesses from Calle Néstor de la Torre and Avenida José Mesa y López will be operational.
The City Council recommends to citizens and visitors the use of public transport during the celebration of the Day of the Armed Forces, also known by the acronym DIFAS, as well as their collaboration to minimize the generation of waste and compliance with the established schedules to avoid the inconvenience that these activities may cause to residents.
This security and traffic device will have the collaboration of the National Police, Civil Guard and General Corps of the Canary Police, as well as the Fire Fighting and Rescue Service – Firefighters and the Group of Civil Protection Volunteers of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria collaborates with the Defence Staff in the organization of the events, in which the areas of Presidency, Ciudad de Mar, Heritage, Roads and Works, Sports, Security, Lighting and Culture, among others, participate.
