The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, has inaugurated on Tuesday a seminar addressed to the consular body accredited in the province of Las Palmas on the innovations introduced by the new Regulation on Foreigners, approved by the Government of Spain in November last year and which has entered into force precisely on May 20.
During the presentation of the day, which took place at the headquarters of the Delegation of the Government of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Subdelegate of the Government in Las Palmas, Teresa Mayans, as well as the head of the Office of Foreigners of the Subdelegation of the Government in Las Palmas, Soraya Sosa, accompanied by the department heads, Adolfo Rodríguez and Raúl Ramírez, also participated.
“The regulation on foreigners has been modified with the aim of offering a more agile, fair and modern response to the challenges posed by immigration today. This reform reflects our country’s commitment to the principles of human rights, international solidarity and multilateral cooperation,” said Anselmo Pestana, who stressed that “consulates and consulate staff play a fundamental role in the effective implementation of this reform since, as representatives of the interests of the foreign population in Spain, they are key actors to ensure that the new procedures are known, understood, applied and fully respected.”
Likewise, the government delegate in the Islands has transferred to the representatives of the consular corps of Las Palmas the reinforcement of personnel that has been planned by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory in coordination with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, in the offices of foreigners, to face the workload with the approval of the new Regulation.
“For the moment, in the immigration offices of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, eight personnel have been incorporated, for at least 18 months, which will also soon be joined by new official personnel as structural reinforcement,” added Pestana.
The celebration of this seminar is part of the events of the Open Administration Week 2025 organized by the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands to bring its work closer to the citizens.
