The government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, today presented Patricia Hernández with the Medal for the Promotion of the Values of Equality, awarded by the Ministry of Equality of the Government of Spain.
At the award ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Government Subdelegation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Anselmo Pestana pointed out that “this award represents recognition of Hernández’s commitment to equality and social justice throughout his career and, especially, his contribution as senator to the achievement of the Organic Law of Measures of Integral Protection against Gender Violence, which has been approved for 20 years”.
“The 20th anniversary of this law is not only a time to celebrate the achievements made, and to recognize all men and women, who from different areas made it possible, but also to renew our determination to eradicate male violence,” said the government delegate in the Canary Islands, who also recalled the 1,303 women and the 63 boys and girls killed for gender violence since there are records.
The Medal for the Promotion of the Values of Equality is a decoration awarded individually by order of the Minister of Equality, on the proposal of the holder of the Secretary of State for Equality and for the Eradication of Violence against Women, in order to recognize the work of those people who have distinguished themselves in a relevant way in the exercise and promotion of the values of equality and in the elimination of all kinds of discrimination based on any personal or social condition.
This 2025, the Government of Spain has granted this distinction to 94 people, who contributed to the legislative approval of the Organic Law on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence, including María del Carmen Castellano Rodríguez, Oliva Cedrés Rodríguez, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, José Mendoza Cabrera, Román Rodríguez Rodríguez and Gustavo Santana Martel.
