The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, accompanied by the island director of the General Administration of the State in La Palma, Ana María de León, and by the mayor of Santa Cruz de La Palma, Asier Antona, has inaugurated today the Open Administration Week (SAA) 2024 in the palm capital.
Anselmo Pestana has presided over the event with which the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands has begun the activities organized by its seven island venues to celebrate the SAA from June 10 to 16, an initiative coordinated and promoted throughout the country by the General Directorate of Public Governance of the Government of Spain and framed in the International Alliance for Open Government that seeks to bring Public Administrations closer to the citizens.
This event, organized by the Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State in La Palma, was also attended by, among other civil and military authorities, the fifth vice-president and Councilor for Public Works, Services and Transport of the Cabildo de La Palma, Darwin Rodríguez; the Superior Chief of Police of the Canary Islands, Jesús María Gómez; the Head of Zone of the Civil Guard in the Canary Islands, Juan Hernández; the deputy of the Common, María Dolores Padrón, and the mayors of El El Paso, Tazacorte and Puntallana, as well as Javier Llano.
In the presence of students and teachers from several schools on the island, the main areas of work and means available to citizens in the context of security, defense and emergencies have been presented, with vehicles and equipment from the Armed Forces, the State Security Forces and Corps, the Forest Fire Intervention and Reinforcement Teams (EIRIF), the emergency teams of the Island Council and the Local Police of the Palm Capital being exhibited on Avenida Marítima de Santa Cruz de La Palma.
“During this week, more than a thousand events will take place in our country, such as the one we are holding here today, the purpose of which is to strengthen the links between public authorities and citizens, demonstrating the commitment of our institutions to the development of the values of transparency, accountability, citizen participation and the collaboration of public administrations with society,” said the government delegate.
“From the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands, through the Subdelegations and Island Directorates, we have organized a program with a series of activities, 27 to be more precise, framed within this Open Administration Week, and that we will develop around our seven island headquarters,” he added.
Anselmo Pestana wanted to express his gratitude to the security, defense and emergency bodies that have collaborated with the initiative of the Island Directorate in La Palma, while highlighting the “very important work” of the public employees of the Government Delegation in its seven headquarters: “Their constant effort and dedication are essential for the operation and development of the different services and resources we offer to our citizens in the Canary Islands,” he said.
On the Maritime Avenue of the capital of La Palma, two tactical vehicles PCBON and vamtac sk, a vehicle of Battalion Command Post and a piece of artillery “Light Gun” of the Armed Forces, and, on the part of the Civil Guard, several patrol vehicles, of the Traffic Detachment and of the Prosecutor and Borders, of SEPRONA, of Judicial Police, a boat of the Group of Underwater Activities and of the Maritime Service, as well as a helicopter of the Air Unit have been exhibited today.
The National Police has held exhibitions of operations by, among others, the Special Unit of Canine Guides, of TEDAX-NRBQ, of the Air Media Service, of the Scientific Police, of the Special Operational Group of Security, and there have also been exhibitions of vehicles of the Local Police of Santa Cruz de La Palma, as well as helicopters, bulldozers and self-pumps of the EIRIF and emergency teams of the Cabildo de La Palma.
First day of Open Administration in other islands
This Monday the headquarters of the Government Delegation and Government Subdelegation has opened its doors to citizens for the first of the three days of guided visits to its building of the Plaza de la Feria de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in which the staff of the house will inform the attendees about the services offered.
In Tenerife, the Government Subdelegation held its first information session, this time on the work of its Health and Social Policy Unit, which was accompanied by a hygiene and health inspection on board a ship.
In La Gomera, the Insular Directorate has organized for this Monday two workshops on security and privacy in communications aimed at adolescents and elderly people and taught in collaboration with the Civil Guard, as well as a dance meeting at the Choreographic Center of La Gomera, with the interpretation of its resident company of the production entitled “What you perceive”.
