The headquarters of the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands in the Plaza de la Feria de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has opened today to host two guided tours of the citizens within the Living Heritage initiative of the City Council of the capital of Gran Canaria.
The delegate of the Government in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, and the subdelegate of the Government in Las Palmas, Teresa Mayans, have received the citizens who have made the route around the Plaza de la Feria that was organized for today by the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
“Opening the doors of this house to the citizens is one of the main objectives that I set myself when I was appointed a government delegate four years ago and in which we have also worked from the General Secretariat. The Canaries and the Canaries need to know where they can find the representation of the Government of Spain, from where we work for and in the general interest,” says Anselmo Pestana.
“Therefore, we have not hesitated at any time to join this initiative launched by the Department of Culture of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In this way, we also assert the necessary collaboration between the different Public Administrations. We cannot from this house but thank the City Council for the willingness they show to collaborate with the Government Delegation and with the Government of Spain,” he adds.
This initiative of the municipal corporation has as its main objective the diffusion and valuation among the population of the richness of the historical-artistic heritage of the city, among them the environment of the Plaza de la Feria, where the Headquarters of the Naval Command of the Canary Islands and the Government Delegation are located.
During the visit, the original plans of the Government Delegation building, designed by the architect Eduardo Laforet Altolaguirre, whose grandson, the chronicler Juan José Laforet, has today accompanied the delegate and the subdelegate of the Government, have been exhibited for the first time.
