The government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, and the island director of the General Administration of the State in La Palma, Ana de León, met today in Santa Cruz de La Palma with the mayors of El Paso, Eloy Martín, and of Los Llanos de Aridane, Javier Llamas, to increase coordination between the state and municipal administration in matters of security.
In this meeting, held at the headquarters of the Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State in La Palma, the councilor for Security of the City of El Paso, Jonay Pérez, and, on the part of the Civil Guard, Brigadier General Juan Hernández Mosquera, the chief colonel of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Command, Ángel Sanz, and the captain of the Company, Ángel Cervero, have also participated.
The government delegate in the Canary Islands has conveyed to the municipal representatives that the Government of Spain is committed to maintaining security in all areas of the island of La Palma, covering more than one hundred percent of the Civil Guard personnel catalogue.
Anselmo Pestana has also explained that the presence of the Security Forces and Corps in La Palma, and particularly its effectiveness, has allowed the number of detainees and investigated to increase this year compared to last year, on an island whose crime rate is already below the state average.
“Not only do we comply with the presence of Civil Guard troops in La Palma, but in Los Llanos de Aridane and El Paso there are more troops, given that the State opted to strengthen security in the two municipalities after the volcanic emergency,” says the government delegate.
At the meeting, the mayors of both municipalities showed their collaboration, detailing the situation of their municipalities, and it has been agreed to establish a technical follow-up meeting between the Government Delegation, through the Insular Directorate, State Security Forces and Bodies, City Councils and Local Police to implement coordinated actions that strengthen the sense of security of the citizens.
“Both the island director and I are fully committed to the task of continuing to work in coordination and collaboration with the other administrations of the island to improve the daily life of the neighbors and neighbors of La Palma, from all perspectives, also in the field of security,” says Anselmo Pestana.
