The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, today chaired the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Casa del Niño Charity Foundation of the province of Las Palmas, in which the updating of its statutes has been approved unanimously by those present.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, was also attended by the Subdelegate of the Government in Las Palmas, Teresa Mayans; the Deputy Minister of Social Rights of the Government of the Canary Islands, Gemma Martínez; the Councilor of the Presidency of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Teodoro Sosa; the Delegate Councilor for Social Services of the City of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, María del Carmen Vargas, as well as representatives of the Special Delegation of the Economy and the Diocese of the Canary Island,
This foundation, attached to the State and created in 1938 on the initiative of the then civil governor, has today expanded the foundational purposes set out in its statutes, including the provision of socio-health care and services to vulnerable people or people at risk of social exclusion.
The statutes of the Children’s House of Las Palmas already contemplated as a foundational purpose the assistance, education and training of minors in situations of desamparo, risk or social vulnerability, being its main activity, therefore, to solve such situations of need.
“We have taken an important step, because the original statutes date back to the late 1930s and this is almost a historical fact. We have approved it unanimously, we are all in agreement,” says the government delegate in the Canary Islands.
“All the institutions that we are represented, both private and public, are in agreement, and that will clear the horizon of the actions that will be consolidated in the future. All aimed at addressing situations of exclusion and vulnerability. I am very happy that we have taken this important step,” he adds.
In the meeting held this Thursday in Government Delegation it has also been agreed to include as patron of the Casa del Niño the bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, who from now on will be part of the Board of Trustees together with the person in charge of the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands; Mr. Conde de la Vega Grande; the person in charge of the Special Delegation of Economy and Finance in Las Palmas; the person in charge of the Presidency of the Island Council of Gran Canaria; the person in charge of the Ministry of Finance;
The Casa del Niño was created in the Spanish Civil War with the donation made by the brothers Del Castillo and Del Castillo of some land in the southern area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and with the main objective of “providing shelter and education to at least part of abandoned or economically needy childhood”, according to the purposes contemplated by the original statutes of this charitable foundation.
