The Government Delegation in Asturias held the annual meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Master Plan for School Safety, chaired by José Antonio Fernández Espina, director of the High Inspection of Education. The session was attended by representatives of the high inspection of education and the security forces, including Pablo Díaz, high inspector of education; Iris Rodríguez and Claudio Alperi, inspectors of the National Police Force; and Lieutenant Dan García and the civil guard David Sánchez, from the Civil Guard.
The main objective of the Master Plan, promoted since 2007 by the Ministries of Interior and Education, is to improve coexistence and security in schools, as well as to strengthen confidence in the State Security Forces and Corps. Through talks, workshops and training actions given by the National Police and the Civil Guard, educational centers can voluntarily register to participate in this initiative.
During the academic year 2024-2025, a total of 320 educational centers in Asturias, 83% of the total, have participated in the activities of the Master Plan. This programme has reached approximately 25,000 students at all levels of education, from children to vocational training and special education.
The most demanded topics continue to be the risks related to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and cybersecurity, as well as bullying and cyberbullying in schools. Other relevant topics have also been addressed, such as violence against the educational community, violent youth groups, hate crimes and discrimination, gender violence, sexual crime prevention, drug and alcohol consumption, nature protection and road safety.
According to the survey of evaluation carried out to the participating centers, the satisfaction with the activities has been very high, with an average score of 3.8 out of 4. The heads of the centers have expressed their majority intention to continue participating in the Master Plan in the next school year.
This year, the Civil Guard and the National Police have jointly developed about 50% of the activities, deployed throughout the Principality to meet the demand and strengthen educational security.
The Commission also collected suggestions and observations from the centers to further improve the program and adapt it to the changing needs of the educational community.
