The delegate of the Government in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, has chaired the meeting of the follow-up committee of the Greater Security Plan in which the growing interest in this initiative has been noted.
The Greater Security Plan was created in 2010 by the Ministry of the Interior and its fundamental objective is the prevention of the main threats to the security of the elderly and to promote their confidence in the State Security Forces and Corps, which, in turn, also improve their response in their actions.
In 2024, the National Police and the Civil Guard gave lectures in 111 establishments of the ERA, municipal centers and centers of private majors located in 52 councils. They are 11 centers more than in 2023, 11 percent more. If we compare with 2019 - since 2020 the plan was interrupted for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic - the number of centers has multiplied by three.
Last year, the agents explained to 2,653 elderly people how to react to cases of mistreatment, house robberies, shootings, theft or scams, or the risks arising from the use of the Internet and new technologies. There are 154 more people than in 2023, an increase of 6.2 percent.
At the meeting, it became clear that the increase in participation was determined by the support for the dissemination of the plan by both the Ministry of Social Rights and the ERA Management, facilitating to the Government Delegation the contacts of the people responsible for the elderly centres, both public and private, and encouraging the centres to participate in the actions of the plan.
All parties have reiterated their commitment to the initiative to reach as many older people as possible. The coordinator of the Master Plan in the Government Delegation, José Antonio Fernández Espina, director of the High Inspection of Education, will continue to contact the senior centers and strengthen communication with the municipalities to provide the information they require and the necessary help for their participation in the actions of the plan.
The meeting was attended by Enrique Rodríguez Nuño, Director General of Promotion of Personal and Senior Autonomy; Nerea Monroy, Managing Director of the ERA; Pablo Díaz, High Inspector of Education of the Government Delegation; Inspector Iris Rodríguez, Delegate of Citizen Participation of the National Police in Oviedo; Inspector Luis Claudio Alperi, Delegate of Citizen Participation of the National Police in Gijón; and Lieutenant Dan García, Head of Education.
