The delegate of the Government, Adriana Lastra, has intervened in the institutional act of the Day of the Pillar, patron of the Civil Guard, which was held in the Caucasus of Rubin after attending the Holy Mass in the Cathedral of Oviedo.
Lastra has addressed the first words in public to the Civil Guard since she was appointed delegate of the Government in Asturias three months ago recalling the values of dedication, sacrifice, loyalty and service to society “that all citizens recognize you” and the 180 years in which the institution “has earned the respect” of the entire population. “In a world that constantly faces new and complex threats,” Lastra said, “the Civil Guard remains an institution of trust.”
“I see as extraordinary what your ordinary work is,” Lastra said, recalling that one of her first activities as a government delegate was to visit the Rubin Quartering “to get to know first-hand the many services that the Civil Guard provides to guarantee the security and well-being of Asturias.”
By listing “the incomprehensible work” of the Civil Guard, the government delegate has stopped at the work of the Viogén Teams that protect one in three women who “need to feel safe” from their partner or ex-partner in Asturias. Lastra has highlighted the role of civil guards in “prevention and assistance” to victims: “In most of our territory, you are the only instrument available to the victims. You offer the confidence to encourage women who are mistreated to report.”
The delegate of the Government congratulated the Civil Guard for its 180 years of history, “you are a fundamental pillar in the history of Spain”, she said before assessing its ability to adapt “to the changes of society”, transforming itself into a “modern and highly professional” force, but always keeping intact its founding values, “honour, vocation of service and loyalty to Spain and its citizens”.
“The Government of Spain is on your side,” said Lastra, “in addition to replenishing the number of personnel in public job offers with a replacement rate of 125 percent, the Ministry of the Interior has allocated funds from the Recovery Plan and the Funds for Internal Security of the European Union to improve your conditions.”
The government delegate concluded by thanking the civil guards, their families “who support you and understand the sacrifices involved in your work”, and reminding those who died in the act of service. In addition, he congratulated Alberto Aguilera, current Chief of Operations of the Area/Command of Asturias and who recently became a colonel: “You have always lived up to the circumstances, many times over your duty.” And he has thanked Colonel Francisco Javier Puerta for his “loyalty and enormous ability to work”.
