The Government delegate in Asturias, Delia Losa, has chaired the meeting of the follow-up committee of the Greater Security Plan, where the growing interest in this initiative that was resumed last year after the halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic has been noted.
The Greater Security Plan was created in 2014 by the Ministry of the Interior and its fundamental objective is the prevention of the main threats to the security of the elderly and to promote their confidence in the State Security Forces and Bodies that, in turn, also improve their response in their actions.
The National Police and the Civil Guard gave 102 talks in 2023 -59 more than in 2019-, in 100 establishments of the ERA and in municipal centers and in centers of private seniors, 61 more than four years before. The agents explained to 2,499 elderly people how to react to cases of mistreatment, burglary, tyranny, theft or scams, or the risks arising from the use of the Internet and new technologies. The increase over 2019 is 79 percent.
The meeting showed that the increase in participation was influenced by the dissemination of the Plan by both the Ministry of Social Rights and Welfare and the ERA Management, facilitating the contacts of the people responsible for the centres for the elderly, both public and private, to the Government Delegation and encouraging the centres to participate in the actions of the Plan.
All parties have reiterated their commitment to the initiative to reach as many older people as possible. The coordinator of the Master Plan in the Government Delegation, José Antonio Fernández Espina, director of the High Inspection of Education, will continue to contact the senior centers and municipalities to provide the information they require and the necessary help for their participation in the actions of the plan.
In addition to Losa and Fernández Espina, the meeting was attended by Enrique Rodríguez Nuño, Director General for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Senior Citizens, Nerea Monroy, Managing Director of the ERA, Pablo Díaz, High Inspector of Education of the Government Delegation, Inspector Iris Rodríguez, Delegate of Citizen Participation of the National Police in Oviedo, Inspector Luis Claudio Alperi, Citizen Participation of the National Police in Gijón, and Lieutenant Dan García, Head of Civil Education.
