The second and final phase of the 2023 Programme to Help the Most Disadvantaged People is already under way. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has sent 624,590.24 kilos of food to Asturias to the vessels of the Food Bank of Asturias Foundation and the Asturias Red Cross so that both entities can distribute them free of charge among 19,015 beneficiaries. 94 organizations collaborate in the distribution of products valued at 1,128,131.51 euros. Adding up the data of the first phase, this year 875,969.84 kilos of food have been distributed in Asturias, with a total outlay of 1,545,161.18 euros.
The Programme is 100% co-financed by the Recovery Aid for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe (OBJECTIVE-EU) fund to increase support for the European Fund for the Most Disadvantaged People (FEAD). The Agriculture and Fisheries Area of the Government Delegation in Asturias is responsible for coordinating the delivery and distribution of food.
The foods that are distributed this month are basic, varied, nutritious, unperishable, easy to transport and storage. The food basket includes: rice, cooked chickpeas, cooked beans, canned tuna, sardine canned, meat canned, alimentary paste, fried tomato, biscuits, vegetable sour, canned fruit, soluble cocoa and childish fruit and chicken tarrites.
Throughout the country, the 2023 Program of food aid to the most disadvantaged people has involved the free distribution of 51 million kilos of food throughout the country. The action has required the purchase of food through a public tender process for 88,571,420 euros.
2023 is the last in which the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food participates in the implementation of the plans of the food aid program for the most disadvantaged people of the European Union, in which it participates since 1987 without interruption.
From 2024, the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, and the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030, will be the competent ministries to articulate this model of aid in Spain.
