Following the approval by the Council of Ministers on 25 October 2022 of the unification of the Civil Guard Commanders of Oviedo and Gijón under the name Zone of the Civil Guard of the Principality of Asturias, the Civil Guard yesterday published in its Official Gazette of the Civil Guard the destinations of the leadership of the new Zone of the Civil Guard, which will enter into force on 1 April.
In this way, the former Asturias Zone, and Oviedo and Gijón Commanders are united in a single Unit with the denomination of Zone/Principality of Asturias Command.
The change is due to the need to adapt the territorial organization of the Civil Guard in the Principality to the autonomous reality of the State, making the demarcation of each Zone coincide with the territory of a single Autonomous Community, as well as the demarcation of each Command with the territory of a province, a situation in which the Principality was an exception, since two Commands coexisted in the same province.
This new structure will mean an improvement in the operability, mainly because by avoiding duplication in some of the units, while retaining the number of troops in Asturias, it will result in the provision of a better service to the citizen.
From now on, a process of reorganization of units is launched that will materialize through organic adaptations to the resulting new jobs, this reorganization will be carried out little by little, in the medium term, so that it does not affect the staff and if it does, it will be residual.
The first consequence of the organizational adaptation has been the appointment of a single Command of the new Zone/Command, responsibility that falls to Colonel Francisco Javier Puerta Muñoz, as well as the appointment of the Lieutenant Colonels, former Chiefs of Command, as Section Chiefs of the new Unit.
The quartering of the Civil Guard of Contrueces, in Gijón, will be maintained, establishing the residence and office of a Lieutenant Colonel of the Civil Guard with advisory functions and support to the Command of the new Zone/Command.
Likewise, the rest of the Units and personnel working and residing in these facilities will remain in Gijón, with the exception of a small number of Civil Guards who must carry out their work in Oviedo.
On the other hand, the territorial deployment of the Companies, the Posts and the specialties of the Civil Guard in the Principality will remain unchanged both in its geographical location and in the number of personnel serving.
