The delegate of the Government in Asturias, Delia Losa, met this morning with representatives of the Union of Retired and Pensioners of UGT-Asturias, the Federation of Retired and Pensioners of CCOO-Asturias and the Federation of Associations of Elderly of the Principality of Asturias, FAMPA, to assess the measures of the Government of Spain to revalue pensions.
“They have told me that they are very happy with the increase”, said Losa, who considers that with the revaluation of pensions “the Government of Spain has complied with pensioners”.
The Government delegate recalled that thanks to the application of different rules from 2018 to the present, the Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez has revalued contributory pensions under the CPI, eliminating the reform approved by the previous government in 2013 and limiting its annual increase to 0.25%.
This means in practice that an average retirement pension in Asturias has increased by 21.8 percent in the last five years to reach 1,635.27 euros in 2023, “it is 292.46 euros on average per month, while if the previous model were still in force, the increase would have been less than 17 euros,” Losa said. The government delegate considers that this demonstrates that “there is another way to face a crisis, shielding the purchasing power of pensioners.”
With the current pension update in January of this year, which represents an increase of 8.5 percent compared to 2022, a retiree earns an average of 128,11 euros more per month, which means that this year he will receive 1,793.54 euros more in total, “as much as one more month”, said Losa.
In addition, the Government delegate in Asturias recalled that the extension of the 15% increase in non-contributory pensions that had been applied since July 2022 has been included in the general budgets of the State for 2023 as one of the measures to alleviate the effects of the war in Ukraine on the economy.
