Teruel.- On the occasion of the celebration of the LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, which will take place on June 28 in Teruel, the Subdelegation of the Government has placed at its headquarters in Plaza de San Juan the rainbow flags as a sign of support and solidarity with the collective. Also at night the lighting of the facade in rainbow with the same objective is visible.
This symbolic gesture is framed within the institutional commitment adopted by the Subdelegation, which has signed the ‘Commitment for a safe, diverse and hate-free Teruel’, promoted by the organizing collective Café con Bollos and its convening alliances. For her part, Sandra Bayón, president of Chrysallis, has also visited during these days the Government Subdelegation to seek institutional support for the collective.
The document that has facilitated the organization of the Pride march, signed by the subdelegate of the Government, Enrique Gómez, involves a series of public and active commitments in defense of the rights and dignity of LGTBIQ+ people. Among them stand out the explicit rejection of any hate speech, collaboration with social entities of the collective and making visible the institutional support beyond the commemorative dates
In the province of Teruel, the visibility of the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community is especially relevant. Public institutions play a key role not only in celebrating days like Pride, but also in effectively protecting against hate speech and acts. In this sense, tools such as the 028 service — a free, anonymous and confidential line of care for LGTBIQ+ people against all forms of violence due to LGTBIphobia, launched in 2023 by the Ministry of Equality — become fundamental resources to inform, accompany and report situations of discrimination or violence. The Subdelegation of the Government in Teruel, by publicly adhering to this commitment, reinforces the message that equality and dignity must be protected 365 days a year.
"This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Equal Marriage Act, a milestone that marked a before and after in the history of civil rights in our country," said the government's deputy delegate in Teruel, Enrique Gómez. "As an institutional representative, I think it is essential to remember that this conquest was the result of the struggle of many brave and committed people, and that today we have a responsibility to continue protecting and expanding those rights. Celebrating Pride is also paying tribute to those who paved the way and reaffirming that in our society there is no place for discrimination or regression."
Gómez pointed out that, “with the signing of this commitment, the Subdelegation of the Government in Teruel reaffirms its willingness to contribute to a city more respectful, inclusive and free of discrimination.”
