On the occasion of the European Day against Attacks on Health Personnel, the subdelegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, has chaired a coordination meeting between the health police interlocutors of the Civil Guard and the National Police, and representatives of the Seconded Police, the medical, nursing, pharmacy and veterinary colleges of the province, the Territorial Delegation of the Government of Aragon in Huesca and the Provincial Health and Health Service.
In the province of Huesca, attacks on health personnel registered by the National Police and the Civil Guard have risen slightly. During 2024, a total of nine complaints were registered (two more than in 2023) of which three were for physical aggression and six for verbal attacks or threats; in addition, six attacks were recorded by the National Police that were not reported.
The deputy delegate recalled that, as has been detected for some time, “the number of complaints that come to be presented to the National Police and the Civil Guard is much lower than the real number of attacks.” In this regard, Campo explained that at the meeting it was agreed to put in place mechanisms for the Health to make the police interlocutors aware of these situations, even if the complaint is not made effective.
“Reporting is a difficult step, especially in environments of proximity between professionals and users, but it allows us to make this problem visible. In addition to not leaving the attack unanswered, a complaint also serves to prevent a future attack that may be received by another health worker, because in many cases the perpetrators are repeat offenders,” said Campo.
Also with the help of the health interlocutors of the National Police and the Civil Guard, another measure that has been proposed at this meeting is to offer generalized courses for health personnel in risk management and personal defense, such as the one recently carried out for the personnel of the Hospital of Barbastro.
The deputy delegate has called “to take care of those who take care of us, much more at a time when health professionals are subjected to a lot of work tension”. He has also thanked the State Security Forces and Corps for their work of permanent contact with health centres and their professionals to prevent these situations.
