Aragon currently has 2,638 active cases in the Ministry of the Interior’s Comprehensive Monitoring System for Gender Violence (VioGén System), 22% more than last year. By province, there are 593 cases in Huesca; 197 in Teruel, and 1,903 in Zaragoza.
These are the figures detailed by the government delegate in Aragón, Fernando Beltrán, on the occasion of the minute of silence convened at the doors of the Delegation in Zaragoza, as well as in the subdelegations of Huesca and Teruel, in memory of all the victims of machista violence. In Aragón, 34 deaths have been recorded since 2003; the last of them, Susana, the woman murdered by her ex-partner in Ejea de los Caballeros on July 6.
Faced with these statistics, which at the national level reach 1,286 fatalities since the beginning of the records in 2003. The latest victim has been confirmed today in the province of Seville and there is another case under investigation in Alicante, Beltrán said that “these are unbearable figures of violence against women”. “They kill women and also their children to do them even more harm. We will intensify awareness-raising actions from school and will continue to work tirelessly to improve protective measures. Here we must all be together, institutions and society, to put a stop to this scourge,” he said.
“That is why we continue working to incorporate all local police into the protection system to reinforce the work of the National Police and the Civil Guard in all corners of Aragón,” explained Beltrán. Specifically, in the community there are 17 municipalities adhered to the VioGén System: BBQ, Binéfar, Fraga, Huesca, Jaca, Alcañiz, La Almunia de Doña Godina, Calatayud, Caspe, Cuarte de Huerva, Pedrola, Pinseque, Tarazona, Tauste, Utebo, Villanueva de Gállego and Zuera.
