The subdelegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, has participated today in the hostel hospital of pilgrims of Arrés in the presentation of the new season of the campaign ‘No caminas sola’ to reinforce the security of women who undertake the Camino de Santiago Frances alone. It is a joint initiative of the Units against Gender Violence of the Government Delegations of La Rioja, Navarra, Aragón, Castilla y León and Galicia, autonomous communities through which this Jacobean route runs, in addition to that of Extremadura, through which the Vía de la Plata runs.
The deputy delegate was accompanied in the presentation by the mayor of the town, Martín Torres; by the president of the Region of Jacetania, Oblivion Moratinos; by the head of the VioGén Unit of the Subdelegation, Carmen García Lanzas; and by the lieutenant colonel of the Civil Guard José Enrique Cordobés and the chief inspector of the National Police Station in Jaca, Jesús Ruiz, bodies in charge of security in the localities and territories through which the route runs.
The campaign ‘Do not walk alone’ is aimed at pilgrims to make them aware of the resources available to women and that they can use in the event that they suffer any type of violence. This campaign adds the specific devices of the Civil Guard and the National Police for the protection of all people who transit the Camino de Santiago
‘No caminas sola’ materializes in the dissemination in different locations of the Camino de Santiago of diptychs and bilingual informative posters that include a QR that links to the phones of attention (the specific one for male violence, 016, and generals 062 and 091) and to the nearest resources where they will be served.
The materials can be found in the different shelters and pharmacies of the municipalities through which the route passes, and will also be available in the barracks of the Civil Guard, in addition to the Jaca Police Station and the Cooperation and Customs Center of Canfranc.
Alertcops, “guardian of the Camino de Santiago”
The subdelegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, recalled that the pilgrims also have the mobile application AlertCops, joint for Civil Guard and National Police. Among the functions of this tool is “Guardian of the Camino de Santiago”, which allows to share the position with the State Security Forces and Bodies so that in case of emergency or risk the police posts can attend to the user more effectively.
For Campo, the combination of all these actions means that “pilgrims can access along the Jacobean route all available resources against gender violence, and also know that they have the help of the State Security Forces and Bodies in case they are faced with a situation of this type”.
