The astronomical spring begins this Wednesday, March 20, at 04.06, peninsular time. Then it will end a winter that, according to the records, has been in Aragon very warm, with an anomaly of two degrees Celsius.
This was explained by the delegate of the AEMET in Aragón, Rafael Requena, who today offered a press conference in which he reviewed the weather behavior of the station and advanced the forecasts for the coming days, paying special attention to the Holy Week days.
The winter that ends has been in Aragon the second warmest since the beginning of the series in 1961, being two degrees Celsius above the normal of the 1991-2020 series, with rainfall slightly below those that are usually recorded. In addition, the first semester of the agricultural year, which began in September, has also marked an anomaly of +2.3°, being the first time that the two degrees are exceeded in a series of six months. Throughout Spain, eight of the ten warmest winters have been recorded in the 21st century.
The rainfall has been at 92% of its normal value, being more abundant in the last month and especially significant in the Pyrenees, although in general they have not done so in the form of snow. “The rains have been distributed in a very heterogeneous way these months, as usual, while the highest snow thicknesses have been concentrated in recent weeks,” said Requena.
For the next few days the benign temperatures are expected to continue, with little precipitation. In view of the beginning of Holy Week, the territorial delegate has indicated that the temperatures will drop in the north of Aragon, with the possibility of some rain and the return of snowfall in the Pyrenean area.
The seasonal forecast is that there will be a spring with a high probability that the temperature will be higher than normal in the quarter of April, May and June. “Spring is expected to be warmer than normal, although we do not see clearly the trend that rainfall is going to have,” said Requena.
