The delegate of the Government of Spain in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, has today presented the figures of the special device of organization and security of the Municipal Elections of next Sunday, May 28, which will mobilize 20,203 troops of the security forces and bodies, of which 17,599 will be disposed by the State, that is, 1,112 more than in the local elections of 2019, a growth of 6.3%, "which make it -- he said -- the largest security device of democracy."
Of the total number of professionals, 6,774 will be from the National Police, that is, 6.5% more, and 10,825 from the Civil Guard (+6.1%), to which 2,604 members of the Local Police will collaborate in each of the municipalities where the 3,782 polling stations are located. In total, 20,203 agents will make up the entire security operation.
“For these municipalities, 6,461,477 Andalusians are called to participate, of which 349,378 will be new voters for having complicated the 18 years since the previous ones, held in 2019,” continued the delegate, highlighting the increase experienced in the vote by mail, “where we have gone from 169,410 four years ago to 222,764 for these premises.”
He has also mentioned foreign voters residing in Spain (CERE), specifically Andalusia, who can exercise their right to vote in municipal elections. “In total, they are 65,316, 15.76% of the total in Spain,” he said.
On election day, in addition to the security forces, 4,907 representatives of the Administration have been appointed, who are responsible for transmitting information related to the constitution of the polling stations, incidents that may occur during the election day and the sending of the results of the ballots. To do this, they will have a total of 4,205 data transmission devices that will be used to record and send in real time the incidents from the openings of tables, at 9.00h, to the closing, at 20:00h.
Among presidents, members and alternates will be 78,339 Andalusians who are part of this device, who will be informed, through the manual for staff of the tables, of how to act to ensure the correct development of this process. This year, as a novelty, this manual has a specific section on accessibility so that people with hearing or visual disabilities can exercise their right to vote without problems.
Once the polling stations open, the Andalusians will have a total of 10,281 polling stations, 10,297 ballot boxes, 7,501 booths and 6,754,500 envelopes “to celebrate the big day of democracy”, concluded Pedro Fernández.
