The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA), has initiated the first phase of the ‘2023 Food Aid Programme for the most disadvantaged people’, in which the distribution in Andalusia of 3.76 million kilos of food is planned. This distribution, included in the 15 million kilos that the Government will deliver throughout the national territory, represents approximately 30% of the total to be distributed in 2023, whose second phase will begin next September.
The food purchased is basic, varied, nutritious, unperishable, easy to transport and storage. In this way, the basket includes foods such as rice, cooked chickpeas, canned tuna, alimentary paste (spaghetti and noodles), fried tomato, biscuits, vegetable macedonia, soluble cocoa or childish fruit and chicken tarritos.
These products will be delivered to all Andalusian provinces and will be distributed through the 18 designated centers of the Spanish Federation of Food Banks and the provincial centers of the Spanish Red Cross. These entities will distribute food to about 1,289 partner delivery organizations, so that the more than 329,700 final beneficiaries can easily prepare a full meal for one person or family, including babies.
The purchase of food for this national program has been carried out through two public tender processes worth 88,571,420 million euros (VAT not included), funded in its entirety by the recovery and resilience fund WORD, which has been used to increase support to the Fund for European Aid for the Most Disadvantaged People (FEAD), in order to help those who have been most affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
