The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has listed for 1.1 million euros (VAT included) the works of “Improvement of road safety and reorganization of pedestrian crossings, crossing N-351, PP.KK. 3+090 to 4+610. T.M. San Roque”, in the province of Cadiz. The corresponding announcement will soon be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The objective of the project is to develop actions that favor the compatibility of road and pedestrian safety in approximately 1,500 meters of length of this crossing.
The N-351 road, as it passes through the Camp neighborhood of the municipality of San Roque, has an average high traffic intensity of about 25,000 vehicles a day and is the main access to La Linea de la Concepción and Gibraltar. In this stretch, which has buildings on both sides of the road, there are 6 pedestrian crossings, only one of them being semaphorized and the rest has light signs.
The intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which will allocate up to 357 million euros (VAT not included) from NextGenerationEU funds to modernize more than 80 tunnels, enhance the protection of fauna and the safety of vulnerable users.
Technical characteristics
The actions envisaged to guarantee road safety conditions for pedestrians and road traffic include:
- Elimination of two pedestrian crossings, one of them located in the acceleration zone of the central departure lane of an establishment on the fringes of the road, and their relocation in points that represent a safer location.
- Placement of a semaphorical group in each pedestrian crossing.
- Placing a pedestrian rail on the sidewalk.
- Elevation of the sidewalk in sections where it is located at a lower level than the height of the N-351 itself, its extension in width being foreseen to allow the transit of people with reduced mobility.
- Complementary actions: extension of the layer of phonoabsorbent agglomerate throughout the area of action, replacement of affected services and other complementary works
