The delegate of the Government of Spain in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, has met with the provincial leaders of the Violence against Women Units, as well as with its regional coordinator, Maribel Montaño, to analyze the latest data corresponding to the February Statistical Bulletin of the Comprehensive Monitoring System of Gender Violence, VioGén System, which reflects the 20,761 active cases in Andalusia.
During the meeting, Fernández explained that this figure is very similar to that of the month of January, when 20,700 cases were counted, “however, the number of calls to 016, of Atenpro users and of the removal bracelets decreed by the courts have increased by a greater percentage, which indicates a greater use of the tools of support and protection to the victims.”
Thus, it has detailed how in February 2023 the number of protection and removal wristbands active by the Gender Violence Courts stood at 1,240, 3% more than in January and 20.4% more than in the same month of last year. “The same goes for calls to 016, which as of February 28 stood at 1,032, 15% more than in February last year, when 898 were counted,” he said.
The 016, the delegate recalled, is a free telephone service of information, legal advice and immediate psychosocial attention by specialized personnel to all forms of violence against women, an action that is also carried out through WhatsApp 600 000 016 and email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es.
Another of the tools analyzed in the VioGén Statistical Bulletin is the Atenpro service of care and protection by electronic device with geolocation and emergency button for victims, which as of February 28 recorded 3,316 actions, 10% more than in February 2022.
“It is necessary to continue working and expanding resources to detect and protect women from any type of gender-based violence; join efforts with all public administrations and institutions involved in the prevention of violence and protection of victims and publicly reject from all areas of our society the machista behaviors that are the basis of inequality and abuse,” said the delegate.
The meeting with the heads of the provincial units has also served to report on the actions financed through the State Pact against Gender Violence designed by the units themselves. Precisely on February 28, the Council of Ministers authorized the distribution to the Andalusian administration of 21.26 million euros, of the State Pact for the fight against all types of violence against women.
The statistic prepared by the Government Delegation for Gender Violence, under the Secretary of State for Equality, aims to have a knowledge of the evolution of gender violence in the community and determine the most effective practices in its prevention, as well as to integrate and coordinate all users to reduce cases.
