The special device that the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has had active from 15:00 hours on Friday, December 23 to 23:59 on Sunday, January 8 has been closed in Andalusia with 10 deaths in traffic accidents, two fewer than in 2019, a reference year after recovering normality once the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic have been overcome, but figures that place Andalusia at the top in number of deaths in Spain.
During these days, a total of 4.27 million long-distance trips have been recorded on Andalusian roads, which represents 22% of the national mobility, which recorded 19.4 million trips, 5% more than the Christmas holidays of 2019, while those who died were 6 less than in that year, 51 in total.
In relation to road accidents in Andalusia, during the days of the Special Christmas Operation, 8 fatal accidents were recorded, with a total of 10 deaths, 2 serious injuries and 4 minor injuries. Of the 10 dead, 3 of them have been vulnerable, 2 on motorcycles (Cádiz A-2300 and Huelva A-461) and one was a pedestrian (Huelva N-431).
By Autonomous Communities, Andalusia has recorded the highest number of deaths (10) and Catalonia has had the highest increase, going from 3 deaths in 2019 to 8 in these festivities.
The day with the most fatalities was Saturday, December 24, with 11 deaths. In contrast, there were 2 days with 0 deaths, on Sunday 1 and Wednesday 4 January.
