The Provincial Director of Education, Elena Fernández Treviño, has announced that the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD), has expanded the number of Specialized Open Classrooms for students with special educational needs (NEE) in Melilla in three more, thus reaching a total of 10 classrooms in the city for the next course.
“The Government of Spain has taken another step in its commitment to a public, inclusive and quality education”, said the head of the Provincial Directorate of MEFPyD in our city, who pointed out that this initiative is in the spirit of the LOMLOE (Organic Law 3/2020), “which strengthens the right to an equitable and inclusive education, eliminating barriers and guaranteeing the necessary supports so that all students, without exception, can develop their capacities to the maximum.”
With this expansion, the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Education, “materializes the principles of inclusive and progressive education law, prioritizing attention to diversity and equal opportunities in the public system,” he said.
In fact, he has stressed that the Specialized Open Classrooms, created in 2021 as part of the educational policy of the progressive government, are an example of his commitment to social rights.
Fairer education system
As Fernández Treviño has reported, the 3 new classrooms are created in the CEIP Encarna León, the IES Enrique Nieto and in the IES Miguel Fernández for the coming course.
These classrooms are added to those already existing in centers such as the CEIP Anselmo Pardo, IES Virgen de la Victoria, CEIP Real, IES Juan Antonio Fernández Pérez, Colegio La Salle-El Carmen, CEIP León Solá and IES Leopoldo Queipo.
“The Ministry of Education thus reaffirms its leadership in the construction of a fairer education system, in line with the LOMLOE, which prioritizes the inclusion and personalization of learning,” said the Provincial Director of Education.
Moreover, in the words of Fernández Treviño, this measure “not only improves the attention to students with NEE, but also consolidates the public, inclusive and quality school model that the Government defends”.
Thus, he has made it clear that he will bet on these classrooms while working on an Inclusive Education project in the coming years that will strengthen the regular classrooms with support resources.
“Once again, the Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez shows that its educational policy is moving towards a more egalitarian society, where no one is left behind,” he concluded.
