The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, valued the “magnificent work” developed by the National Police Force to train students from early ages in the responsible use of the Internet and new technologies.
The subdelegate presented this morning the 46 boys and girls of 6th grade of primary school of the CEIP Plurilungüe Carballal de Marín, who successfully passed the training course on the safe use of the Internet taught by the Citizen Participation unit of the National Police. Accompanied by the provincial commissioner, Juan José Díaz; by the chief inspector of the Marín police station, Javier Fos, by the inspector of education in Pontevedra, José María Alén and by the director of the educational center, Yeray González, the subdelegate congratulated the students for completing this course, emphasizing the importance of knowing not only the advantages, but also the risks involved in the use of technologies.
In this regard, he reminded children of all educational levels present of the importance of communicating to their parents, to the school or to the police itself when they detect one of these dangers or threats. “Thanks to this type of training, children are able to recognize that certain behaviors that are carried out through the Internet are considered a crime and are therefore key to stopping behaviors such as cyberbullying,” he explained. Likewise, the subdelegate stressed the importance of boys and girls transmitting the acquired knowledge to their family environment, “thus helping parents, grandparents and grandmothers in the use of new technologies.” Finally, Abel Losada highlighted the success of the Master Plan for Coexistence in Schools, the project that welcomes the initiative of the “cyber experts”.
He recalled that based on cooperation between administrations, security forces and the educational community, this plan grew by 80% in the last year in the province of Pontevedra, reaching 34,500 students. “Behind this success there is a political commitment on the part of the government and a human effort on the part of the security forces that I want to recognize again,” he said, while committing to “continue working to promote culture and security among the school population.”
